Q: Chris, we’ve been using Facebook for a few years and still we don’t seem to get much from our business page. Can you take a look and give us some guidance?

A: Sure thing!

(1) Profile Configuration

Configure your profile information properly, with a description of your business and link to your website. Everything should be filled out properly. Use these Facebook Best Practices. https://iawip.com/best-practices-facebook-01/

(2) Appropriate Images

A picture says 1000 words, right? Create and use an eye-catching thematically appropriate graphic cover image. Same for your profile image. You’re a wedding caterer – it’s all about the food, right? You’re not properly communicating that right now. It’s actually a “disconnect.”

(3) Large Graphics

Use large, crisp, colorful graphics with your posts. Your website has a bunch of GREAT pictures of food. Use the same in your Facebook posts. We recommend images that are at least 775×445 pixels. Create some photo ALBUMS with the different types of food you offer couples! Add some testimonials to each post (and in the album images!). Put your phone number in the post content.

(4) Consistently Post

Post regularly. Your last post is more than 45 days ago. #ouch. This isn’t going to cut it. Arguably, a bride/groom might wonder if you are still in business. We looked at some of your competitors and one of them is posting daily. This puts you at a competitive disadvantage. A BEST PRACTICE is to post at least 3x a week. Post daily if you can. Tools like Hootsuite make it easier to create and SCHEDULE posts. http://hootsuite.com

(5) Follow the ABCs of Social Posting

Post high-quality content that (a) couples will find helpful, (b) clearly communicate that YOU ARE AN EXPERT at what you do, and (c) link back to your website. Lean towards helpful information vs. “sounds-like-an-advertisement.”

(6) Hire Someone To Do It For You

If you’re not into Facebook or social media, or don’t have time to do this and do it properly, either hire someone to do it for you or take your Facebook page down. An improperly configured and outdated Facebook page will hurt your business and brand, YES HURT IT, especially when brides/grooms compare you to another well managed and active Facebook page.
