Q: Chris, will buying extra domains and re-pointing them to our main website help us get better rankings at Google?
A: No, buying extra keyword-rich domains and re-pointing or “forwarding” them to your main domain, hoping to improve the rankings of the receiving website, does not work.
There are only four reasons to buy a domain.
(1) You’re actually going to USE IT. You’re going to put up a website at the domain.
(2) You’re going to use it as part of a marketing campaign.
(3) You don’t want someone else to buy it and own/control it – or potentially use it.
(4) You are buying it hoping to resell it at a later date for a profit (i.e. domaining).
